You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Arusha. After a morning briefing, you'll head to Lake Manyara National Park. This compact park stretches along the 600m-high Rift Valley escarpment, with its centerpiece being the alkaline Lake Manyara. The lake is often adorned with thousands of flamingos, turning its shallow waters pink. The park is home to a wealth of birdlife, with over 400 species recorded, and its diverse vegetation supports various animals, including monkeys in the forest, giraffes and antelopes on the grasslands, and elephants around the acacia trees. With a bit of luck, you might even spot the elusive Manyara lions lounging in the trees. In the late afternoon, you’ll depart Lake Manyara National Park and travel to Juamanyara, near the park, where you’ll spend the night.
After breakfast, you'll drive toward the lush crater highlands where the Iraqw people cultivate wheat, corn, and coffee. As you pass the Ngorongoro Crater, you'll arrive at the Serengeti National Park's expansive plains around midday. The Serengeti, Tanzania’s largest park, boasts a variety of landscapes, including short grass plains, savannahs, dense bush, swamps, mountains, and lakes. Unique rock formations known as kopjes are scattered across the plains, providing prime spots for spotting predators. Depending on the time of year, you'll witness the park's famous migration of thousands of animals. During the short rainy season in November and December, herds migrate from the northern hills to the southern plains. In the longer rainy season from April to June, they head back north. This migration cycle is driven by annual rainfall, and while herd locations may vary each year, your guide will be well-informed on where to find them.
That sounds like an amazing adventure! The early morning game drive in the Seronera region should offer some fantastic wildlife sightings, with the chance to see wildebeests and zebras up close to predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs. The Ngorongoro Crater is breathtaking as well, with its stunning views from the crater rim. It’s a day packed with incredible experiences and opportunities for some great wildlife photography.
Driving into the Ngorongoro Crater sounds like an incredible experience, with the transition from forested slopes to open savannah offering diverse wildlife viewing opportunities. Spotting the Big Five in a single day would be a highlight for any safari enthusiast! Warthogs, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, and many bird species add to the excitement. Returning to Arusha in the early evening after such a full day will be a great way to wrap up your adventure. We will then drop you safely at your hotel.
